Intern's Blog for June

Bethany Roberts, MAP Intern

Sunday, June 1

Today I went to church, then finished packing for my two months with the Childs family.  I traveled the extremely long eight miles, filled with excitement!  People arrived, we ate, drove the new bus to church, came back and then the most exciting event was when the new bus got stuck breaking the sewage line.

Monday, June 2

We got the bus unstuck today!!!  Tonight we listened to Brother Sonny speak on marital blissters and it was very informative!  Other interesting things that happened today were:  we saw a HUGE snake, we watched The Cosby Show, and I learned how to quilt!

Tuesday, June 3

Today we made fried bread *amazing*...Brother Sonny spoke on marital bliss-ters and used I Peter 3 as his launching scripture.  When we went to bed, there was a dirt dobber in the room and it scared everybody to death, but I successfully killed it, letting all the girls have a peaceful rest.

Wednesday, June 4

Today the boys, a few girls, and Leonard Banning got the bus painted white.  We were able to take our newly painted white bus to church.  After church we made a much anticipated trip to Wally World!

Thursday, June 5

Today was CRAZY because everyone was running around trying to get ready for the dinner theater.  Lyndal and I spent most of the day preparing our first slide show for Homemade Roles.  After the dinner theater, which I believe was a great success, we all watched the slide show and said goodbye to everyone leaving in the morning.

Friday, June 6

Today was mostly a catch up on sleep day for those staying the whole month of MAP.  We said goodbye to 8 friends.  Tonight we watched the very sad movie, "Spirit", then packed for church camp in Dugger, Indiana, then went to bed.

Saturday, June 7

We left around 9:00 a.m. to head to Dugger.  It was a pretty uneventful ride except for the ant farm we found on the bus.  We made it to camp without anyone dying of heat stroke.

Sunday, June 8

Today we got up and ate breakfast and had a short church service at camp.  We saw another HUGE snake, but they killed this one, so I can sleep well at night.  There's about 40 campers including the MAP group.

Monday, June 9

Today there was another snake, this time however it was on the girl's side of camp.  Brother Sonny said not to kill this one because it was a "good" snake (I think the only good snake is a dead snake), so one of the boys at camp herded the snake safely away into the woods.  We are now under a flash flood warning and we got more rain today, making the day an extremely uneventful day!

Tuesday, June 10

Today Bryson Childs led us in an excellent devotional talk at chapel.  I caught up on a lot of sleep at free time.  To end the day, many of the campers played Tug-of-War in the mud.  I, of course, didn't participate because of my princess status, so I got some extra sleep.

Wednesday, June 11

Camp is half over which is very sad because I've made so many great new friends here!  At the beginning of camp I only had two friends in my cabin, but now I'm friends with all severn other girls in my cabin.  I really hope I get to come back to Woodland next year 'cause I've really enjoyed every minute of it!

Thursday, June 12

Today I was sick so I stayed in bed.  My friends were very sweet and brought me some cookies and sweet tea.  The real highlight of my day, however, was when Brother Sonny himself came to make sure I was ok, it really made my day!

Friday, June 13

Today was a happy/sad day.  It was happy because we had 2 baptisms, but sad because it's the last day of camp.  Most of the day, when we weren't in class, I sat in the cabin and bonded with some of the girls.

Saturday, June 14

Today we were all ready to leave, goodbyes had been said, cabins had been cleaned, and everyone was packed.  We got on the bus, it wouldn't move because the ground was so soft.  About an hour and a half and $100 later, we were on our way back to Paragould!

Sunday, June 15

This morning we all got up to go to church at Union Central.  After church we had lunch and took naps.  The best part of the day, however, was when Lyndal and I went to get Father's Day presents for Brother Sonny!!!

Monday, June 16

Today we started classes for MAP.   We also started working on VBS stuff!  I'm exhausted, but I'm having the best time I've ever had!

Tuesday, June 17

VBS is really coming along!  We're going tomorrow to buy decorations!  I have a very hard working group to help me!

Wednesday, June 18

We leave tomorrow for Sellersburg, Indiana, and our VBS stuff isn't ready yet!  I'm not too worried about it though because my group said they'll work on it during the trip.  Putting a VBS together is a lot of work!

Thursday, June 19

We left today for Sellersburg.  Lyndal and I kept Brother Sonny company in the van!  Lyndal told a story, needless to say, Brother Sonny enjoyed the 8 hour trip there!

Friday, June 20

We went to the Creation Museum in Cincinnati today.  It was AMAZING!!!  I'd love to go back and spend longer there!

Saturday, June 21

Today we traveled back to Paragould.  Lyndal and I didn't talk the whole way home, in exchange Brother Sonny was supposed to shave off his mustache.  It took a "jury" of MAPsters to convict him, but Brother Sonny did shave his mustache!

Sunday, June 22

Tonight was the start of VBS!  Even though I had been worried, I thought it turned out great!  I can't wait for the rest of the week!

Lyndal Steiner, MAP Intern

Sunday, June 1

Today we traveled from Little Rock to Paragould.  We brought along 3 of the girls from our home congregation for this week's  Homemade Roles.  On the way, we drove through a bad thunderstorm (strong winds and wet roads, bad combination) - it was scary!  But the Lord took good care of us and helped us arrive safely just in time for evening service.  The rest of the night consisted of getting the bus stuck, prayer circle, then off to bed!

Monday, June 2

Today we (the girls) worked in the garden with Ms. Cindy, it was plenty of fun until Brother Sonny broke the tiller.  Later in the afternoon, I taught the girls' class on Inner Beauty, which I enjoyed very much!  I also especially enjoyed tonight's video values where we got to watch a very funny episode of The Cosby Show.

Tuesday, June 3

Today was Inner Beauty Day, so none of the girls were allowed to wear makeup or do any kind of electrical stuff to our hair.  In the morning all the boys went out of their way to let all of the girls know how beautiful they were even without the everyday eyeliner and mascara.  I loved seeing the way the attitudes of everyone were so great - encouraging each other.  It was very sweet!

Wednesday, June 4

Today was fun, the boys and Mr. Leonard painted the bus and worked outside worked outside with the men, while us girls worked inside with Ms. Cindy and Mrs. Maxine.  We learned to make jelly! (which tasted wonderful, I might add)  Then in the evening we all packed it up (in the newly painted bus) and went to church at Union Central!

Thursday, June 5

Today was the day of the big performance!  We were all very excited about the dinner theater we were putting on in appreciation to all the people who helped out in the making of our wonderful new MAP building!  So after the morning classes, the rest of the day was spent practicing and getting things ready for the big night.  It all ended up turning out great!  I was very proud of the group!

Friday, June 6

Today was a bittersweet day, in the morning we had to say goodbye to all the people that aren't going with us for the rest of the month.  The rest of the day was spent resting and packing up for Woodland.

Saturday, June 7

This morning we woke up early, ate breakfast, then loaded up in the big white snow machine.  There wasn't any AC so it was a pretty hot trip, but don't worry, we made up for the heat with our fun times and great attitudes!  I slept pretty much the whole time because I wasn't feeling too good.  We finally arrived at Woodland Bible Camp at about 7:00 p.m.

Sunday, June 8

Today we had our own little church service, then the group went to Wal-Mart while us team leaders stayed and did a few chores to get ready for the week.  Around three o'clock, people started showing up for camp!  It was great to see everyone again!

Monday, June 9

Today was the first day of camp!  The morning was busy with classes and study time; in the afternoon there was a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, where my team dominated.  Then tonight, after Brother Sonny's lesson in evening chapel, we had 2 baptisms!  It was a wonderful way to end the day!

Tuesday, June 10

Today was great!  I've really enjoyed Matt Abbott's classes on Faith and Brother Sonny's classes on Prayer.  In the afternoon free time, we played some hardcore volleyball.  Then tonight we played tug-of-war.  I got very, very muddy (I was in the front because I was the smallest), but, oh well, it was good times!

P.S. I managed to keep my princess status even while being muddy:-)

Wednesday, June 11

Today Wesley Abbott presented a great lesson in chapel on loving your enemies and soon after there was Mr. Matt's lesson on Integrity.  In the afternoon, I took advantage of the free time by taking a nice long nap and memorizing some verses.  We ended the day with a prayer circle and a great game of Capture the Flag.

Thursday, June 12

Today was fun - we did a super cool scavenger hunt that the cooks made for the campers.  Tonight was also dress up night so everyone looked very nice at dinner.  After evening devo and prayer circle, we played capture the flag again since we enjoyed it so much last night.  The only downside was all the bug bites!

Friday, June 13

Well today was the last full day of camp.  I finally finished memorizing the M.U.G.G.head Scripture (Colossians 3:1-17).  In the afternoon, we played an awesome game of Ultimate Frisbee in the pouring down rain.  Then tonight after the talent show, we did one last crown for Jesus before going to bed.

Saturday, June 14

This morning was kinda crazy.  The MAPsters were up early so we could get loaded up and get on the road for our long drive back to Paragould.  On our way out, the bus got stuck in the mud and we had to call a tow truck to get us out of there.  Once we got on the road, it was a great trip and we arrived home safely around 8:30 p.m.

Sunday, June 15

We attended the Union Central church this morning, where we will be running the VBS during MAP.  In the afternoon, we had a nice long nap time since we were so wiped out from the trip.  A few of the teens were sick, so this also gave them some time to rest up.  In the evening we went back to Union Central, worshipped with them, then found out our assignments for VBS.

Monday, June 16

Today was our first full day of MAP.  We were very happy to see Brother Norman after the hard week last week with his back.  I really enjoyed all the classes today, and I especially enjoyed "Awe Time" - it was great.

Tuesday, June 17

Today we had our regular classes in the morning, then in the afternoon Cathie loaded us all up into the bus and took us to the store to get stuff for our VBS classes.  I'm really excited, it should be great!

Wednesday, June 18

Today we went through the normal MAP day with Brother Norman's and Brother Sonny's classes.  In the afternoon we did some extra stuff for our VBS, then tonight after church at Union Central we all worked for awhile decorating our classrooms.

Thursday, June 19

This morning, bright and early, we left for Sellersburg, IN.   It was a nice day of traveling.  I told a wonderful story to the whole van, they loved it!  At about 5:00, we arrived at the church where we stayed.  After a wonderful dinner that they made us, we decided to play some basketball.  Within 5 minutes of playing, I twisted my ankle.  So I spent the rest of the night with my foot propped up with ice on it.

Friday, June 20

Today we went to the Creation Museum in Cincinnati, Ohio!  I loved it!  Since I hurt my ankle last night, it was hurting quite bad as I walked/hobbled around on it all day.  When we got back to the church, the group had a volleyball tournament of which I didn't participate due to my foot :(

Saturday, June 21

Today we traveled home from Sellersburg.  About an hour into our trip, Brother Sonny, Bethany and I somehow got into this deal where if we didn't talk for the rest of the trip home then he would shave off his mustache and Val would shave his face.  So Bethany and I were silent for 8 hours!  It was hard, but at the end of the day we had won and the 'stache was gone!

Sunday, June 22

Today we went to church at Union Central, then soon after service we all came back home, ate lunch, then headed back to finish getting ready for VBS.  Tonight we started our first night of VBS.  It was a great time!
