Reading Assignment
Lesson 12

Q: What is the secret to seeing God work in your life?

A: How often do you go through your daily routine without thinking about or taking notice of God and what He has done that day? Maybe what He did wasn’t specifically for you, but it was His handiwork and you just didn’t realize it was there. I must confess that I am often guilty of not verbally or mentally taking notice of God on a daily basis. It’s one of the things that I want to change about myself, so I thought maybe you could use some encouragement in this area as well.

Here are a few things I am currently trying and some things that others have shared with me that have helped them see God working in their life:

  • Say a prayer of thanksgiving first thing in the morning, even if you have to do it before getting out of bed
  • Write down your prayer requests and take note of how God answers them.
  • Read from the Bible, even if it is just one verse. Think about what you read throughout the day.
  • On strips of paper, write down what God has done for you and your family then put it in a special place. From time to time, take them out and read through these notes.
  • Pray through the Psalms.
  • Set an alarm on your phone with a Bible verse on it or a reminder to pray to God. I have mine set to go off three different times on Thursday with parts of this Bible verse on each alarm: “I will see you again and your hearts will rejoice and no one will take your joy from you.” John 16:22
  • Each Sunday during home church, our family tells where we saw God that week. It helps build our faith when we share these blessings with someone else.
  • Go outside and pray, then write in a journal – your prayers, what God has revealed to you, or what you see in nature that makes you think of God.
  • Before going to bed, take a few minutes to reflect on the day and find something that was evidence of God.

It’s a lot like God saying, “You do not have, because you do not ask.” James 4:2b We don’t see Him because we don’t look. In order to see Him working in our lives, we have to make a conscientious effort to look for the evidence of Him!

Thought question: What are some things you do to help you see God working in your life?
