Reading Assignment
Lesson 13
Q: What is the secret to including spiritual growth in every part of a child’s day?
A: I would say that the first step you have to take is to train yourself to be spiritually minded. If you spend all of your time focusing on physical things (money, food, clothing, school, house/yard work, etc.) and no time on spiritual matters, it becomes obvious in your actions and attitude. That doesn’t mean you should sit all day and read your Bible or talk about biblical things or only watch biblically based shows. It does mean that you pray first thing in the morning (even if that means praying while you nurse your baby or change their diaper). It also means taking time to learn Bible verses and read the Bible as a family or during quiet time or while the children are asleep. Spending time with God does not always mean you have to be completely alone, but it does mean you are learning from Him and continuing to grow. As you grow, God’s light will be seen in you and your family will grow because of it.
Secondly, you must be intentional about training your children. It’s easy to go through life and just let things happen. It’s hard to consider the consequences of our actions or lack of training our children. There’s so much that they need to learn from parents who truly love God and have their best interest in mind. I can’t even begin to make a list, but they must hear it from you out of a healthy respect for God and His ancient ways. They need to start learning it while they are young, because they will be challenged often as they grow older and will need that firm foundation to stand on – to be able to develop their own faith.
So, stand by their side every day and show them God’s handiwork. It’s everywhere!
Look for moments to talk about Him and His Word, whether it’s shown in someone doing something for them or the opposite – someone hurting them or someone else. Talk about it!
Take time to demonstrate God’s love by doing special things for your husband (their daddy), for them, for other family members or friends, and for your neighbors. Show it!
Your children are your greatest investment! Let them know it by introducing them to the One Who not only created them, but Who loves them the most!
